*Celebrate a great first day of school with a dinner out! Let the kids decide where they would like to eat, to celebrate their big day!
*Make a huge and delicious breakfast on the first day. Maybe it is the same thing every year and the kids look forward to it...blueberry pancakes and sausage, stuffed french toast, or something cute and creative!
*Take a first day picture and have your child hold up the number of fingers for what grade they are going into. Make a "First Day" book and put these photos in it each year. How fun to look back on the cute first day outfits and backpacks!
*Plan a "Back to School" shopping trip with mom. Make it a date and shop with each child on a different day to spend some special time with them.
*I love this idea...start a tradition where the "Magic Schoolbus" visits your house the night before the first day. (Check out the Magic Schoolbus books, if you aren't familiar with this idea!) The Magic Schoolbus can drop off a bag on the front doorstep filled with some fun school supplies for homework, a new outfit, a toy to offer some comfort, or anything else you think your child might enjoy! Of course include a note filled with encouragement for the first day!
*Have a fun family outing the night before, like getting icecream or frozen yogurt. Find a spot to sit and relax and mom and dad can share some sweet goals or blessings for the new school year!
*A traditional snack of homemade cookies and milk after the first day at the kitchen table and time to chat about all of the day's activities.
*Print up a sign for whatever grade they are going into and have them stand by the front door, holding their sign. So cute!
If you have any other first day traditions that you do...I'd love to hear them. Have a wonderful first day of school as you let your little one enjoy another year filled with adventures and growth! Happy First Day!

ReplyDeleteI have printed off these ideas and in about 4 years, I will pull them out and start some amazing traditions! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteWhat great ideas! We have 2 more weeks until it all begins again! Thanks and have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteMy kids haven't entered school just yet, but when they do I would like to start the tradition of the Schultute in my house. It started in Germany where you make a giant cone, decorate it and fill it with goodies. This is only done for the 1st grade year. I think it would be fun to do every year. My heritage is from Germany so I thought this would be a good start to get in touch with our descendants as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is just a little comment I always love to share. My kids are all older now but when they were younger someone suggested to me to start a "school clothes" fund for my kids so that when it was time to buy all that fun stuff, there was actually money for it! So I started small with about $25 each month and put it into its own account and then gradually increased the amount over time. This was a HUGE help to me with 4 kids and all the things they need for school. You'd be surprised how much you can save up in one year! Of course...you need to really save up for the high school years...especially if they play a sport!
