Bathroom Fit for a...Kid!

My mom flew in from Florida to spend a week with us...enjoying time with the grandkids but also helping me to finish one of the only rooms in our home that has been untouched from decorating! We just never seemed to get around to doing the bathroom for the kiddos. It's the same bathroom the guests use when they stay with us as well. So, I wanted to pick a style and theme that wasn't too childish but still fun and bright. I decided to go with a fun beach and surfing theme. I found a striped shower curtain, full of color...and that became my inspiration!

My favorite part of the bathroom is the towels we have hanging on the wall. I ripped out the towel racks and nailed up some moulding. Then I bought some stylish hooks and hung six of them across the wall. I chose some colorful towels and draped them over the hooks to make it feel like you are at the beach! It's perfect for kiddos too...no yelling at them to fold the towels neatly after using them! It's cute and kid-friendly.
Most of the pictures and accessories came from garage sales or friends that were cleaning out their closets! I gladly took all of the giveaway items and found ways to use them in my bathroom. And as you can see we chose a turqouise or blue/green color to remind us of the ocean!
After taking inventory on what still needed to be done...we headed to Target for some finishing touches. After purchasing some bright bath mats, soap dispensers, hand towels, and a lamp...we were ready to finish this project up. It turned out great and my kiddos will love splashing in the tub and brushing their teeth in this new and improved bathroom!
*I just linked this post up with Tip Junkie as one of my favorite entries.  Why this one did I want to share?  Well, decorating is something special I share with my mom...who helped on this little project!  I loved the final outcome of the makeover.  I've been on a little decorating kick around our house...and it's all about my kiddos who I love and adore!  I was tempted to share my post on writing a family mission statement (which I also highly recommend) but I went with this one.  Check out the family mission statement also, if you have time!Pin It

It's Harvest Time!

I must admit that it is still so hot by us...near 100 degrees. But autumn is still officially here and the heat couldn't stop my mood for decorating the house for fall! I tried to delay the urge, but couldn't help taking my pumpkins, candles, and fall decorations out of storage. Some years I take pictures of where I place all of my decorations, so I have it for the following year. But more recently, I have realized that I just love to change it up a bit each year and put things wherever I choose to put them!
One idea is to get a foam pumpkin and cut a hole in the top. Buy some fall flower stems from your craft store, and arrange them inside the pumpkin. I make a few of them each year and place them wherever I need a touch of fall. I actually used these pumpkins in my kitchen this year.
I love to use my "dress me up" plate to welcome fall into my home. And you can't forget to add a candle or two around your home for that cozy autumn feel.

Adding some more fall floral arrangements, candles, and pumpkins makes my family room have a nice "fall" feel! I love blending some gold, orange, and brown tones into my yellow and red year-round decor.
I even add a fall touch to my kiddos' playroom with pumpkins and of course some fall reading material. Reading about pumpkins is lots of fun!

Have fun transforming your home for fall by just adding some easy decorations and warm colors here and there. Happy fall y'all!

Family Mission Statement

Ever since I came across the idea to create a mission statement for my family...I have been consumed with making ours! After pillow talk conversations with my husband, evening walks, and even phone calls while at work...we have our first family mission statement finished! I was so excited to print it up and hang it in our house. So, I added a decorative touch with matting, scrapbook paper, and ribbon. And now it is on our wall to remind us of what we feel is most important. We tried to incorporate our goals, our values, our dreams, our hopes, and our beliefs! It's hard to get that all on one page but we are very happy with what we have. Now the most important part is to let this guide us in how we spend our time, what our hearts are filled with, and the kind of people we want to be. Take some time to begin creating yours!

Rules and Routines

I am ALL about establishing rules and routines for my family. And as of recently, we have begun to embark on the ever infamous two year old stage of "mine" and "no!" I had a late bloomer and thought I would be one of those lucky moms who bypassed this wonderful stage. Do those moms even exist? Well, the "mines" and "no-no's" have hit our home and I am ready to hit this stage head on! One of my favorite resources full of articles, advice, and help is the Super Nanny website. It really is absolutely wonderful and I reference it quite often. It has helped me journey through many stages and milestones!

I won't go through all of the nitty gritty of what I am doing in our home to fight off this difficult stage but I will share a few ideas that I am beginning to implement. One is posting some very basic rules and expectations I have for certain activities that lead to problems. One is mealtime! I want my little guy to sit in his chair nicely, use his manners, begin to use utensils properly, try a bite of what is given to him, and clean up when done! These rules are posted near our kitchen table for easy reference and I point them out constantly.

Another problem "activity" we have now come across is playtime. Because my baby girl is now sitting up and grabbing everything...big brother is becoming very possessive of his toys and the word "mine" is used quite often! So, I have created a set of rules for playtime also, to encourage sharing, manners, and help with clean-up. These are referenced quite a bit also! My next goal is to create a food rewards chart with stickers to encourage trying foods in all the food groups (mainly vegetables)! Have fun creating some rules and routines around your home to encourage the kind of behavior you want to see!

Bedroom Door Magnet Boards

I am always looking for ways to add a personalized touch around our home! I love to decorate our children's rooms and it doesn't stop at their doors! To make a cute entrance to their room, I added a magnet board. I can change the photos at anytime to reflect their personality and age. Eventually, they will be able to choose their own favorite photos to hang up. These adorable magnet boards were a gift I purchased for my kiddos from Pink Apple Boutique. I love their items to personalize the home and add a holiday touch. Check out all of their wonderful ideas!
This is my little guy's bedroom door magnet board. I chose the colors to reflect the colors inside his bedroom.
This is my little girl's bedroom door magnet board. Even the ribbon ties into her bedroom palette. How adorable and fun!

Mmmm....one of my favorite sandwiches to cook up is a yummy Reuben! I love sandwiches and this is one that my toddler loves also! It's so easy and a great lunch or easy dinner idea. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:
1 pound corned beek
1/2 pound swiss cheese
1 jar sauerkraut
thousand island dressing

DIRECTIONS:
Butter one side of your slices of rye bread. Flip over and add thousand island dressing to each slice of bread. Organizing your Art Supplies

As my little guy gets older...I have realized how much more the arts and crafts supplies can take over our home! Most of the time we do our projects at the kitchen table. So, I began to brainstorm how and where to keep everything and get organized. I decided to turn our large cabinet, near the kitchen table into an art cabinet. After browsing around the Dollar Store, I picked up a bunch of containers and baskets and got to work! After labeling all of the bins with categories like: glue, crayons, pipe cleaners, stickers, fingerpaint, and more...it was time to fit it all together. It's so much easier to find exactly what we are looking for and have fun during craft time. Another idea I couldn't wait to add were the cork boards on the inside of the cabinet doors. Now after some of our art projects, we have a place to display them. What an easy and cheap way to show off the fun!Pin It
