"The best way to freshen things up is to rearrange the furniture and "shop" your own home for new and creative ways to use items you already own!"
It's true! You don't need to spend money to freshen things up or to update a room, just go "shopping" around your home. Sometimes I get in the mood to re-decorate a room and this very thing happened the other night as I walked around my kitchen. I had added some cute fall touches to the countertops and corners. But for some reason I just wasn't content and wanted the kitchen to look a bit more simplified, clean, and organized. But I still need that cozy feeling. I decided to have the kitchen be mainly yellow and white...happy, clean, a sunshine feeling!
So, I went out to my garage where I keep so many of my odds and ends for decorating. Whenever I come across a good deal at a garage sale, I buy it and add it to my collection of "things I might use for some decorating fun!" I also keep lots of seasonal items out here. When I lived in the Midwest, these things were kept in the basement. But out here in California, the garage is the only place that seems to work. I can't believe I am going to show you a photo of my crazy decorating shelves in the garage...but here goes! They are stacked with lots of decorative items, inspiration, and free stuff to "shop" with!
I also walk around the inside of my house, deciding what to move, change, and rearrange. Since I decided on yellow and white...that is what I was shopping for this evening for my kitchen. I took EVERYTHING off the counters and shelves and island, and started from scratch. Why I began this little project at 9:00 at night...I have no idea! But I am a night owl and I was inspired! So, the fun began!

I love it! I really like the colors.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holiday ~
I'm amazed at how organized your garage is!
ReplyDeleteAnd your kitchen is gorgeous. I wish I could at least get my roommates to keep up on washing the dishes.
Stopping by from SITS. Hope you had a nice holiday!
Stopping by from SITS. That is a great idea, I've seen it done on some decorating shows I used to watch. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThat looks fantastic! I won't be taking your ideas on board in THIS house, as we're moving out of it very soon, but I will definitely give it a try in the new home. What a wonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I'm totally jealous of your kitchen!
ReplyDeleteStopping in from SITS
Stopping in from SITS. I do this myself! And my daughter and I trade stuff sometimes. Beautiful decorating...cute blog!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from SITS...I am SOOOO jealous of having such a perfect place to keep your "home store" and within easy access whenever you need to "shop". Definitely gets ya thinking about things ya have in a new way.
ReplyDeleteWish my garage was as clean as yours :) And that kitchen is gorgeeous too!
ReplyDeleteMy jaw is on the floor. Can you come and decorate my kitchen?
ReplyDeleteSeriously we are going to redo it. If you could do it all over again, would you stick with yellow and white or would you do a different color scheme?
I always tell my clients to walk their houses as if they don't live there, with "fresh eyes" and edit...I have to do it even in my own house, we get used to what we see day in and day out.
ReplyDeleteNice job by the way! :)
GREAT IDEA! and if u ever want to go back to work when the kids are old, professional organizer is a sure bet!! u
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing idea! I am so in love with your cooktop - I want it! I've been shopping this week for a gas cooktop so now I want one just like yours! HAPPY SITS DAY!!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. It's about the most I can do without wreaking financial havoc anytime I feel like redecorating. The feeling comes in spurts and when it does, it's pretty major.
ReplyDeleteIt's so true that odd numbered arrangements are the best - they feel so much more organic!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from SITS!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen was BEAUTIFUL before you started your shopping, and even better when you finished.
I love the idea of buying things here and there to use at a later decorating date. I buy my seasonal stuff that way, now I am ready to explore beyond that.
I love this idea!!! What an awesome idea! ANd your kitchen looks absolutely awesome!
ReplyDeleteI am impressed! I have enjoyed your posts and will definitely be back. Great blog, great pictures. Though my 5 children are grown, I do have two small grandsons (very small, 5.5 months and 4 days) so I can see myself turning parts of our home over to crafts and toys just as I once did with their parents! :-)
