Loving Mod Podge!!

We had a bit of rainy weather this weekend which made me feel like I needed something creative to do inside the house.  I have a bit of the "decorating bug" in me lately and decided my entryway needed a makeover.  I recently read that if there's one place to put some color and style in your home, start with the entry to your home.  It's the first place people see as they walk in and gives them their first impression to your style and the feel of your house.  I guess I had things backwards, because our entryway is probably one of the last places I have felt a desire to decorate!  But this weekend...that all changed!

I went to my local craft store to pick up some cheap wooden frames, scrapbook paper and mod podge.  I scanned and googled some "how to" articles on how to make some projects with this amazing stuff.  And I had so much fun!  These plain wooden frames became so much more!

After covering them in pretty papers, I did a layer of mod podge and set them out to dry.  With this being my first time, it went pretty well.  Next time I will do a better job of getting the bubbles out.  I think I might make some gifts for friends and family for Christmas this year!

And then came the fun part...decorating the entryway!  I need to add some more "after" shots.  But here is a glimpse of the frames and "R" for our last name that I created.  It was loads of fun and I hope you can get creative and do some crafty projects soon as well!Pin It

  4. I love these! And, I do the letter thing as door hangers for the kids' doors. But, I am HORRIBLE at using the exact-o-knife to cut the scrapbook paper to size. Do you do your cutting before or after you've mod podged it on the wood?

  5. These are awesome! Oh, and Heather, I definitely have to interject. Do it before you Mod Podge! Measure 1, 2 and 3 times. You can also use vellum to make a template, which works really well.

  6. I agree with Amy! Even with this being my first mod podge project...I can see how much easier it is do the cutting before hand. I actually painted around the outside edge and the inside edge of the frame with black paint and pressed it down on the back of my scrapbook paper to make an outline for cutting. And I needed my edges black anyways, since the paper only went on top. It worked great!!

  8. Kristin this looks like something I may have to try:) I wanted to comment back on your questions you asked about my blog design! I had Leslie @ Lamberts Lately design my blog, she is great to work with. I emailed her my ideas and pictures and also picked out a design package and she did the rest! I told her the name and details also! She is also a 1st grade teacher so you all would have that in common. Her prices are great too. It was a birthday present from my husband. Her button is also on my blog--Designed by Leslie

  9. Great idea. Do you trace the frame, letter, etc.. then apply the Mod Podge or apply and trim later?

  10. The way I did it is...I take whatever color paint I want to be around my edges and use that. So, paint the edges first (inside edge and outside edges). Then while still wet, I place it on the back of the scrapbook paper. This makes an outline of the edges of the frame for me to cut around. Then I put mod podge all over the back of the paper, place it on the frame, smooth it out, another coat on top, and let it dry!! Hope this helps!
