  1. I'm sure someone has already told you about this--one night before Christmas we always had a picnic under the tree. Sometimes it was pizza and cookies or fast food (kid favorites). As they got older each member of the family could make or buy their contribution. We put a picnic cloth (plastic) near the tree and sat and talked about wishes for Christmas or past memories.
    Another idea my daughter-in-law (born in Louisiana) did with her kids this year was for Mardi Gras. She bought plain colorful masks from a party store and the kids and some of their friend decorated them with feathers and glitter. She also used shoe boxes to make floats. They decorated them with pom poms, curly ribbon, tissue paper, glitter, feathers ect. Later in the day they attended a Mardi Gras parade (in New Smyrna Beach, Fl)and wore their masks. They came home with beads and candies and loved it. I'm a transplanted Ohioian so this was new to me and fun to share the traditions.
